AGM

The AGM took place on 7th December at O’Donovan’s Hotel. The Treasurer’s Report and the Minutes of the 2010 AGM were read out. The Chairman made a statement about the current years activities. A new Committee was then elected with Nicholas continuing as Chair for 2012. He spoke of his hopes for 2012 and 2013. Joe was re-elected as Treasurer. No secretary was elected, so Helene agreed to continue as a temp Secretary.

Helene (after 4 years as Secretary), Melanie, Cathleen Crowley and Julie stepped down from the Committee. Anne and Tadg were invited by Nicholas to the Committee.

€1100 was raised as proceeds from the Club Exhibition in July and this will be presented to CoAction in Skibbereen.

2011 Annual Exhibition

Singer Sean O’Sé was the Guest Speaker at the Club’s Annual Exhibition on Friday 1st July 2011. He was delighted to officially open the Exhibition , he said, as this year the proceeds of the raffle and the €50 donation from the sale of each picture were going to CoAction West Cork, a charity that has a special place for him. Sean spoke of the need for political funding decisions to be made immediately to help charities like CoAction in their ongoing important work.

Sean gave us a rendition of ‘An Poc ar Buile’ and ‘The Banks’ which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. He was presented with a musical themed picture by Geoff Greenham. There was a good turnout by members of the Club and CoAction and the public, and it was good to see Martin from Cobh Camera club there too.

Many thanks to Charlie and Joe for pictures ......... here

‘A’ Panel

Congratulations to Thomas on gaining his Associateship IPF with this panel of seascapes.   Click on image.

“Living on an island means the sea has a huge influence on one’s life. This panel, captured over a number of years, attempts to share my love of the way in which the sea shapes the coastline of Western Europe.

Use of the soft directional light to which we are treated at the start and end of each day emphasises the varied colours and textures which grace the coastline.

This theme of sea, sand and stone is one of contrast: the constant movement of sand, sea and sky contrasting with the relative permanence of the rock forms, while the advancing warm tones of the sky are juxtaposed with the receding cool tones of the sea.” T. Gaffney

2010 Club Annual Exhibition

The Celtic Ross Hotel have kindly let our exhibition run till December. If you’d like to change your images, feel free to do so. Contact Nicholas  if you need help.

Clonakilty Camera Club is holding its 3rd Annual exhibition of members’ work in the Round Tower at the Celtic Ross Hotel, Rosscarbery, Co. Cork.

The exhibition was opened by Lord David Puttnam on Friday July 9th at 8.30 pm, and was well attended by club members and the public.

In his opening speech, Lord Puttnam congratulated members for the high standard of images on display and talked of the beautiful quality of slanting soft light in West Cork.

He also mentioned the empowering nature of the image and the way it can generate an immediate positive response. “Without an image, an appeal for help to a disaster becomes so much more difficult”. He is a former Chairman of UNICEF.

He also spoke of his father, who was an Associated Press staff photographer and also War Office Official Photographer for the British Government during WWII.

See ......... here  to search for Lt L Puttnam images in the Archives of the Imperial War Museum, London.

David Puttnam was agent to some of the world’s foremost portrait and fashion photographers, namely, David Bailey, Brian Duffy and Richard Avedon.

In 2000 Lord Puttnam was awarded the Centennial Medal by the Royal Photographic Society. Only 3 Centennial awards exist.

For 10 years he was the Chairman of the British National Museum of Photography, Film and Television.

It was a real honour for the Club to have him open this years exhibition and we thank him for making the time to do so.

The Clonakilty Camera Club was founded in 1981, and currently has about forty members. While most are amateurs some are practicing professionals. There is a great tradition of the accomplished helping those less skilled, so the standard is continually rising.

The photos in the exhibition both reflect the life and landscape of West Cork, but also there are scenes and portraits from further afield. The photographs are for sale at a very reasonable €90 each

There was a raffle on the night and all proceeds went to COPE Foundation.
